Pierson MJ et al. Programmable shunt valve interactions with osseointegrated hearing devices. J Neurosurg Pediatr 2017 Feb; 10:1-7. PMID: 28186475
The first study to look into interactions between programmable VP shunts and OIHDs (osseointegrated hearing device- not a cochlear implant; interactions between cochlear implants and programmable VP shunts has been previously studied). The study used multiple models of both devices, introducing the OIHD into the VP shunt magnetic field and assessing for changes in valve of shunt. It was determined it is safe to use these two devices together.
